Chelsea vs Crystal Palace

The match could have gone either way. Crystal Palace had a bright start, but pressure was on Chelsea following a defeat on Christmas Eve to the Wolves. It was equally pressing for the South London football club as it hasn’t won in eight games. Crystal Palace now sits in 15th position, after a 13th straight defeat.

Roy Hodgson, Crystal Palace manager, raised hands against the last minute penalty that got Noni Madueke Chelsea a score and a win. “We have to accept there are two referees in the game,” he said referring to the VAR. “It happens and people will look at it themselves. But we are taking away the decision of those on the field and giving it to someone sat in front of a TV screen.

“It’s not my obvious idea of what a penalty looks like. I’m conditioned to see how penalties are given and not given for many years. I’ve no real interest in discussing referees and VAR.”
