Turkiye has received another international recognition with the Global Cities Index of Oxford Economics, which evaluates city rankings among the world’s 1,000 largest cities in 163 countries, based on economy, human capital, quality of life, environment, and governance.
Istanbul Tops Turkiye’s Global Cities Growth
The five Turkish cities listed in the report featured the teeming city of Istanbul as the top-ranked Turkish with an overall ranking of 106th. The more impressive detail was that Istanbul received the 15th rank in global “human capital” – emphasizing the growing importance of a city such as Istanbul in education, workforce readiness, and innovation.
Ankara, the capital city of Türkiye, was listed as ranking 277th following Istanbul, while a destination for many tourists and retirees, Antalya came in at 374th place. Also on the index were İzmit and Bursa at 383rd and 405th, respectively. The varying ranks and representation as industrial, cultural, and economic centers of Türkiye reflect the healthy balance in growth and urbanizing trends among the cities ranked.
