Poland Receives First South Korean K2 Black Panther Tanks Near Russian Border
Poland has deployed the first group of South Korean-made K2 Black Panther tanks in Braniewo located 153 kilometers from the border with Russia’s Kaliningrad region. Seven K2 tanks built by Hyundai Rotem, arrived at the Polish military base in Braniewo on November 14. They are currently undergoing final checks to ensure they meet Polish requirements including the addition of Polish communication systems.
Major Magdalena Kosińska, a spokesperson for Poland’s 16th Pomeranian Mechanized Division, said that the 9th Brigade has received the tanks. More K2 tanks are expected to arrive by the end of 2024. The unit currently has eight crews trained and ready to use the tanks.

This delivery of K2 Black Panther is the first stage of the agreement signed between Poland and South Korea in August 2022. Poland plans to acquire around 1,000 K2 tanks through this $3.4 billion deal. The initial 180 tanks will be delivered from South Korea, and the rest expected to be built in Poland.
