Will Trump’s Travel Ban Impact Iran’s Participation in FIFA World Cup 2026?

Following Iran’s qualification for the FIFA World Cup 2026, worry now arises surrounding a potential travel ban that might impede its participation in the tournament.

Donald Trump has suggested imposing stricter immigration measures which could include a travel ban against certain countries. In an internal memo stating recommendations for a travel ban, Donald Trump did in fact listed Iran on a countrie’s list that suggested a full suspension of visas from that country.

If enforced, the ban could prevent Iranian fans, players and staff from entering the US where many World Cup matches will take place. While Mexico and Canada are co-hosts, Iran is likely to play in the US unless it wins its group or faces a scheduling adjustment. The ban could also strain FIFA’s commitment to inclusivity and fairness.

Trump’s previous travel bans restricted entry from several Muslim majority countries, citing national security concerns. A reinstated version could impact global events, including the World Cup.
