Qatar Joins International Seabed Authority Meeting in Jamaica to Discuss Ocean Mining Rules
As part of joining international efforts to discuss ocean protection as well as deep-sea mining, Qatar recently participated in a major international conclave. The representative of the country went to Jamaica, where they talked about how to compensate for the underwater mining with the protection of the marine life for come generations. On July 21-25, 2024, Qatar attended the 30th International Seabed Authority Assembly in Kingston, Jamaica. The country was represented in this important ocean governance meeting by Omar Ali Al Ali, who is an Assistant Secretary of the Qatari Standing Committee on Sea Laws.
The Assembly of the International Seabed Authority unites the world’s countries to decide on deep-sea mining and the protection of the sea. The presence of Qatar demonstrates the desire of the country to practice sustainable use of the oceans and development. The representative of Qatar made a valuable presentation in favor of the works of the International Seabed Authority in the course of the meeting. He stressed the support of Qatar to the activities of the organization in adhering to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, which was adopted in 1982.
Qatar Supports Balanced Ocean Mining and Environmental Protection
