Silent Hill 2

Konami has announced that the remake of Silent Hill 2, developed by Bloober Team, will be available for pre-order for PS5 and PC on Thursday, October 20.

The Silent Hill 2 remake, as announced during the recently finished “Transmission” livestream, appears to be a complete remake that will feature members of the original crew, Team Silent, specifically Masahiro Ito. Ito is the art director for the 2001 release of Silent Hill 2’s original version. The game is also rumored to be a timed console exclusive for the PS5, however its release date has not yet been specified.

The Silent Hill remake comes, what’s next?

Multiple speculations regarding a new Silent Hill game have been circulating for quite some time, and it appears that the rumors are true. Despite the fact that there are numerous announced efforts, this remake is the largest, making a 21-year comeback for current systems.

Bloober Team, the developer behind The Medium, Layers of Fear, and Observer, has been linked to a Silent Hill revival ever since it announced a cooperation with Konami to create a new game in June of last year. Following a series of leaks earlier this year, rumors that the project would be a remake of Silent Hill 2 began to emerge.

Now, though, Konami and Bloober Team have made the remake official, showing it in a two-minute clip during a Silent-Hill-focused livestream. Here, we saw several legendary Silent Hill 2 moments with a new-gen graphic upgrade, including a questionable makeover for protagonist James Sunderland, who now resembles Alan Wake’s unpopular brother.

Silent Hill remake release date

After confirming that the Silent Hill remake will launch simultaneously on PS5 and PC, with all other systems being left out due to a 12-month console exclusivity clause for Sony, Konami gathered a few key members of the new development team to discuss the project in greater detail. Alongside Bloober are concept artist Masahiro Ito, who served as art director on the original Silent Hill 2, and Akira Yamaoka, who returns to work on the remake’s soundtrack, which Yamaoka says would have a “new musical style”

Several members of Bloober also appeared in a brief video sequence, saying that the studio is approaching the remake of Silent Hill 2 with “a great deal of respect” This will entail “maintaining the distinct Silent Hill vibe,” with the aim of creating a game that would “leave the same lasting effect as it did 21 years ago.”

However, it also outlined some of the adjustments it’s implementing to suit what it calls the “changing expectations” of players, such as the addition of an over-the-shoulder camera. Ultimately, it states that it intends to “recreate everything that made the game an enduring classic, but in a new form that will entice players deeper into the misty streets of Silent Hill.”

The remake of Silent Hill 2 does not currently have a release date, but it will be coming to PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam at some unspecified point in the future.
