As the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards approach, that legacy is alive and thriving, with 2025 shaping up to be one of the most creatively ambitious and competitive years in the show’s history. From sci-fi sagas to biting satire and powerful limited series, this year’s nominations reflect television’s evolving power and its increasingly global influence.

Announced on July 15, the 2025 Emmy nominations offer a sweeping snapshot of an evolving TV industry. From prestige dramas to innovative comedies and daring limited series, this year’s contenders speak to the bold, experimental storytelling dominating our screens.

Apple TV+’s Severance leads with 27 nominations, followed closely by Max’s The Penguin and Hulu’s The Studio. Newcomers like Paradise, The Pitt, and Adolescence stand tall alongside beloved franchises like The Bear, The White Lotus, and The Last of Us. Streaming giants continue to dominate, but legacy networks like CBS and ABC remain firmly in the mix, especially in variety and talk series categories.

A noticeable trend this year? The rise of genre storytelling ,from sci-fi thrillers to true crime dramas ,and the crossover of major Hollywood stars to limited series and anthologies. Another shift: the increasing visibility of international talent and new creators bringing raw, distinct perspectives to U.S. audiences.
