Top Riches Men in the World – Arab
The world’s wealthiest people have had a difficult year, with the number of global billionaires falling to 2,668, down from 2,755 in 2021. This year, 329 people were removed from the list, while 236 newcomers were added. The world’s billionaires’ total net worth in 2022 is $12.7 trillion, down from $13.1 trillion in 2021.
In the Middle East, the list of the richest Arabs in 2022 is largely unchanged from that of 2021, with the exception of Majid Al Futtaim, who died in December 2021. For the fifth year in a row, Saudi billionaires were excluded from Forbes’ World’s Billionaires list in 2022.
With a net worth of $7.7 billion, Nassef Sawiris is the world’s richest Arab. His fortune has dropped by $600 million since 2021, making him the biggest loser among Arab billionaires this year. This is primarily due to a drop in the share price of Adidas, in which Sawiris has a 6% stake.
Issad Rebrab and his family are the world’s second richest Arabs and the only Algerians on the list. Najib Mikati, the Prime Minister of Lebanon, and his brother Taha have seen their wealth increase by $700 million each this year. They have a combined net worth of $3.2 billion.
Egypt and Lebanon have the most billionaires in the region, with six billionaires each.
The six Egyptian billionaires are worth a total of $18.3 billion. They are the three Mansour brothers, Mohammed, Youssef, and Yasseen, the two Sawiris brothers, Nassef and Naguib, and the 93-year-old former Harrods owner, Mohammed Al Fayed.
The combined net worth of the six Lebanese billionaires is $12.6 billion. They include the two Mikati brothers, as well as the three brothers of former Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri, Bahaa, Ayman, and Fahed Hariri.
The United Arab Emirates is represented on the list by three billionaires: Hussain Sajwani, Abdulla bin Ahmad Al Ghurair & family, and Abdulla Al Futtaim & family. Morocco and Qatar each have two billionaires, with Moroccan Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch & family and banking tycoon Othman Benjelloun & family representing Morocco and Qatari Royal Family members Faisal Bin Qassim Al Thani and Hamad bin Jassim Al Thani representing Qatar.
