Members of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) have expressed their strong condemnation of the terrorist attack by Houthi group, carried out by drones on 21st October, 2022 at the Al Dabba oil port of Yemen.

In a press statement today, the members of Security Council raised concerns over the attack and called these attacks a serious threat to the regional peace process to establish stability in Yemen and ensure maritime security, including navigational rights and freedoms according to the international law.

The UN Security Council also stressed that any escalation due to Houthi attacks would only exacerbate the suffering of the Yemeni people who are already grappling to go through one day at a time in country hit by years of conflict. With this the Security Council has called on Houthis to immediately stop such attacks and respect their “obligations under international humanitarian law, prioritize the Yemeni people, and engage constructively in efforts to renew a truce”.

The members of the Security Council have renewed their support for the United Nations Special Envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, as he continues his efforts to ensure achieving a negotiated and comprehensive Yemen led political settlement that is based on the agreed terms of reference. “I condemn the aerial attack claimed by Ansar Allah yesterday, Oct. 21, against the vessel at Al-Dhabba oil terminal in Hadramout governorate,” the UN’s envoy to Yemen said referring to the Houthis by their official name. “At this critical juncture, I call on the parties to show utmost restraint and double their efforts to renew and expand the truce, lay the groundwork for a permanent cease-fire, and activate a political process to end the conflict,” said Hans Grundberg.

Yemen’s internationally recognized government confirmed on Friday that drones were launched by the Iran-backed Houthis that attacked the Al-Dhabba oil terminal, which is located in the southern town of Al-Shihr, as the Nissos oil tanker was preparing to dock at the port.
