What is Saudi Arabia’s turtle-shaped

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) will soon launch a $5 billion terayacht project titled ‘Pangeos’. On completion, Pangeos will become the largest floating city in the world.

Reportedly, it is shaped like a turtle and can accommodate up to 60,000 people. It is being designed by the Italian studio Lazzarini. According to Lazzarini, the name of the project is taken from Pangea, the supercontinent that reportedly existed millions of years ago during the late Paleozoic and early Mesozoic eras.

The turtle-shaped floating city will extend its length to 550 meters (1,800 ft) and measure 610 meters (2,000 ft) at its widest point. Pangeos will also have 19 villas and 64 apartments on each ‘wing’. It will also comprise nine different bows that will begin from the entrance of the port area. It will also feature a terraced villa, private houses, buildings, a rooftop garden, a mall, a beach club and rooftop terraces. The ‘Terashipyard’ infrastructure will provide direct access to the sea. The project would also be powered by nine high-temperature superconductor (HTS) engines of 16,800 HP each.

Lazzarini reportedly said, “The turtle-shaped vessel will become the world’s largest structure ever built.” According to Lazzarini, at least $8 billion needs to be invested in construction.

The design studio also said, “The virtual spaces of the watercraft can also be purchased under an NFT collection.” Reportedly, it is estimated that the project will be completed within eight years.

The Kingdom is no stranger to record-breaking projects. Earlier, the country launched King Salman Park, Qiddiya Water Theme Park, Six Flags Qiddiya, air balloon hotels, Riyadh Champs -Élysées, TROJENA and NEOM (a planned smart city).

NEOM is expected to be completed in 2026. The $500bn flagship NEOM project is one of the most complex construction projects in the world.
