With each factory having an annual capacity of 140,000 tons, the complex aims to carry out all processing phases of the mineral, making it the first of its kind globally.

The project, costing €80 million, is a significant milestone for Egypt and positions the country as the sole quartz plant in Africa and the Middle East.

The Quartz Industrial Complex plays a crucial role in utilizing the quartz reserves found in Marsa Alam’s Marwa Al Sowaiqat mine, which amount to 3.5 million tons.

The processing of quartz involves crushing it into various sizes, turning it into a paste with additional substances, and using it to produce hard quartz slabs.

The completion of the complex has created 2,600 direct and indirect jobs, while engineers and technicians received training in Italy as part of the project.

Italy, Egypt’s third-largest foreign investor with €6 billion of investments, played a key role in the quartz complex.

Two Italian companies involved in the project expressed their interest in participating in other mining sector projects in Egypt, further strengthening the economic partnership between the two countries.

President Sisi emphasized the importance of projects like the Quartz Industrial Complex for Egypt’s economy.

He highlighted the benefits of reducing imports, saving costs, and adding value to the economy by processing raw materials domestically.

He urged the Egyptian Mineral Resource Authority to promote investments in the mining sector, and encouraged the private sector to seize investment opportunities promptly.

The Quartz Industrial Complex marks a significant step forward for Egypt’s mining sector and underscores the country’s commitment to utilizing its natural resources effectively.

In addition to the complex, future projects in the mining sector include the establishment of a bioquartz plant and a glass sand plant, as well as plans for a silicone processing factory and a polycrystalline silicon factory.
