Bahrain-based cycling team becomes subject of Danish police search

Bahrain BahrainPolice from Denmark have searched the hotel where Bahrain Victorious cyclists are staying. According to a statement released by Copenhagen Police on the eve of the Tour de France Grand Depart, officers searched all team cars as well as the staff and riders’ lodgings around 5:30am local time in Brondby.

According to police, the search was requested by French officials. Prior to their departure for the tour, Monday saw searches of the residences of both riders and staff.

Following a late-race hotel search by police, French authorities began a preliminary investigation into allegations of doping against Bahrain Victorious.

“We have searched a hotel in Brondby based on a request from the French police, as part of an ongoing investigation in France,” Chief Superintendent Dannie Rise stated.

The search was finished in under two hours, the crew claimed in a statement, and they completely cooperated with the police. “Nothing was taken from the team,” it continued.

In the Tour last year, Bahrain Victorious took three stage victories. The 17th stage ended with a raid on their lodging. The investigation at the time, according to the Marseille prosecutor’s office, was into “the procurement, transportation, possession, or import of a forbidden substance or prohibited method for use by an athlete without a valid medical reason.”
