Grain Silos Start To Collapse With Fire In Lebanon

Lebanon– Grains silos have been under attack in countries that have been facing economic hardships. Lebanon whose grain silos were damaged in an explosion, there has been more had news for them.
Earlier on, they were damaged due to an explosion because of a negligence in maintenance of the silos by the Lebanese government authorities. Crowds have protested and demanded justice because the fire left public supply compromised at the Covid-19 lockdown times and a little later than that too.
Now, a new fire had broken out three weeks back leading to the silos finally collapsing under the fire and smoke. One part has collapsed and the others will collapse anytime, despite helicopters been reported trying to douse the fire with water.
Health minister Firass Abiad has confirmed to the media that the Environment Ministry had reported that there were no toxins in the air. There were no reports of deaths or injuries following the partial collapse, which comes only days before the two-year anniversary of the explosion.

Fire apparently has been caused because of fermenting wheat and heat that lead to the spark and eventual burn. The earlier fire was due to careless storage of ammonium nitrate stored in them for years together, causing leakage and corrosion and eventual fire.
Caretaker environment minister Nasser Yassin said last week that there was an “increased risk” of the northern structure collapsing because the rate at which the grain silos were tilting had increased from 2 millimetres a day to 2.5mm an hour. The silos, which shielded parts of Beirut from the blast, remain a sensitive topic in Lebanon. The 2020 explosion has been blamed on mismanagement and corruption, and is viewed as a symptom of the country’s many systemic problems.
