Lebanon’s Nadine Labaki Is Set To Be Honoured At The Red Sea International Film Festival

The famous Lebanese writer, director, and actor Nadine Labaki is set to receive Variety International Vanguard Awards at the upcoming Red Sea International Film Festival in Jeddah, a city in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA).

Bollywood star Ranbir Kapoor will also receive the award along with Nadine Labaki. Mohammed Al Turki, the Red Sea International Film Festival CEO, said in a written statement, “Nadine Labaki and Ranbir Kapoor are two remarkable talents in the film industry. We look forward to welcoming them to Jeddah.”

The second edition of the Red Sea International Film Festival will run between December 1-10 in Jeddah. The Red Sea Film Foundation supports the Kingdom’s film industry. The festival was launched in 2019 in Jeddah.

The Lebanese actress will also appear at the festival as part of the “In Conversation” series on December 3. Mohammed Al Turki said, “We will be hosting ‘In Conversation’ events with her to hear about her past success and hopes for the future.”

Nadine Labaki’s first feature, Caramel, premiered in the Cannes Directors Fortnight section in 2007. The film also received the People’s Choice Award at the Toronto Film Festival.

Her film ‘Capernaum’ was selected at the Cannes Film Festival in 2018. She is the first female Arab director to have been nominated for an international Oscar for ‘Capernaum’ in 2018. It was also the first Lebanese film to be nominated for a Golden Globe. Her film was ranked 71 in the Guardian’s list of the 100 Best Films of the 21st Century.

Bollywood actor Kapoor rose to fame in 2007 with “Saawariya”. He has been featured in more than 30 Bollywood movies. He will next be seen in Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal alongside Rashmika Mandanna, Anil Kapoor, and Bobby Deol. His film Brahmastra 2 with Alia Bhatt is also lined up.
