Saudi Arabia initiates second edition of Tawteen program – aims 170,000 jobs

Saudi Arabia

The second iteration of a government programme to increase employment in the Kingdom has just been launched, and it is expected to result in the creation of more than 170,000 new jobs in Saudi Arabia.

The Tawteen programme, run by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development, will add 20,000 jobs to the health, transportation and logistics, real estate, and construction sectors and 25,000 jobs to the industry sector.

As Saudi Arabia works hard to establish the Kingdom as a top tourist destination by 2030, this second iteration of the plan will generate 30,000 jobs in the tourism industry alone.

The National Tourism Strategy for Saudi Arabia states that the country wants to employ one million people in the industry and draw 100 million tourists yearly by 2030.

The Tawteen program’s current iteration also aims to generate 15,000 jobs in the trade sector and another 40,000 job vacancies in various other industries.

The Saudi Industrial Development Fund’s Tawteen programme aims to promote and advance the direction of growing local content spending while also generating employment opportunities for Saudis.

The Saudi nationalisation programme, also known as Saudization or Nitaqat, is thought to be an essential step toward economic success since the Kingdom is now progressively diversifying its economy after being reliant on oil for many years.

In a recent report released by the National Labor Observatory, Saudi Arabia was placed first in the Group of 20 countries for the labour force growth rate between 2012 and 2021.

Even though Saudization has been occurring since 1985, the process has picked up speed after Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman unveiled Vision 2030 in 2016.

The work market in the Kingdom is swiftly changing as Saudization proceeds; according to a report from the Central Department of Statistics and Information, the unemployment rate in the Kingdom dropped from 6% in the first quarter of 2022 to 5.80% in the second quarter.

Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser, the Saudi Transport Minister, stated earlier in September at the Local Content Forum that the Kingdom plans to localise 18 professions over the following year.

Additionally, he said that Saudi Arabia’s transportation industry is aiming to raise the percentage of Saudi citizens who use all of its services.
