Joe Biden urges Israel’s PM Netanyahu to abandon judicial overhaul

The President of the United States, Joe Biden, has urged Benjamin Netanyahu, the Prime Minister of Israel, to abandon the judicial overhaul planned reforms that led to huge demonstrations across Israel.
On Tuesday, Biden asked Netanyahu to abandon the controversial judicial reforms. In response, Netanyahu said that Israel does not make decisions based on pressure from abroad.
While answering questions to the media, Biden talked about the issues in Israel. While referring to the judicial proposal in Israel, Biden said, “I hope he walks away from it.”
Subsequently, Netanyahu issued a statement. The Israeli prime minister said in a statement, “Israel is a sovereign country which makes its decisions by the will of its people and not based on pressures from abroad, including from the best of friends.” He further said that he would make planned judicial overhaul reforms “via broad consensus.”

He appreciated the relationship between the US and Israel. He further said that the Israel-US alliance is unbreakable. The Israeli leader revealed that he has known President Biden for over 40 years.
On Monday, the Israeli leader delayed the overhaul proposal after huge demonstrations took place in the streets. Consequently, the White House said that the Israeli leader can compromise on the issue.
Thousands of Israelis took to the streets to protest against the judicial overhaul plan that would give the Israeli government power over appointments to the Supreme Court of Israel. Many people accused the Israeli prime minister of introducing the planned reforms for Israeli judicial overhaul in order to quash possible judgements against him on various corruption-related cases. They argued that planned reforms might give less power to the country’s supreme court by allowing lawmakers to vote on the supreme court judgments.
On Monday, Israeli President Isaac Herzog appealed to Netanyahu to immediately halt his controversial judicial overhaul reforms after he sacked Defence Minister Yoav Gallant.
