The President of the United States (US), Joe Biden, has said that the US does not want conflict with the Islamic Republic of Iran, but will respond “forcefully” to protect Americans and US personnel.

While addressing the media in Canada, the US President reportedly said, “And to make no mistake: The US does not seek conflict with the Islamic Republic of Iran but be prepared for us to act forcefully to protect our people.”

This comes a day after an American contractor was killed and six US personnel were injured in an attack allegedly carried out by groups affiliated with Iran in Syria. In retaliation, the US military carried out air strikes against groups linked with Iran-backed forces in Syria.

Biden further said that the US military forces carried out a series of airstrikes in Syria in response to the attack carried out by Iran-backed forces. The US President said, “I’m also grateful for the professionalism of our service members who so ably carried out this response.”

Biden was on a visit to Canada. He met Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to discuss the renewed US-Canada Partnership. Biden reportedly said that the US would continue to boost its efforts to counter terrorist threats in the region in partnerships with Canada and other members.

He further revealed that the US, NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization), the G7 (Group of seven), the Quad (Quadrilateral Security Dialogue), the ASEAN, Japan and South Korea were working for global peace and security.
