World Bank Ready to Aid Lebanon’s Reconstruction Post-Conflict

The World Bank is also ready and waiting to help Lebanon reconstruct after the current Hezbollah-Israeli war, a top official said on Tuesday. Jean-Christophe Carret, the World Bank’s Country Director for the Middle East and North Africa expressed during a meeting with the Speaker of the Parliament of Lebanon, Nabih Berri, the commitment of the institution.
During the meeting, it was also established how debris would be cleared and infrastructure rebuilt, as well as the reconstruction of industrial and agricultural enterprises. Carret said that the World Bank is ready to cooperate with the Lebanese government regarding the tremendous losses incurred by the country due to the conflict. As per assessment, physical losses and costs are around $8.5 billion.
Speaker Berri said that he is glad that the World Bank is involved and suggested that the plan for rebuild should also include the issue of land reclamation and financial assistance to farmers, industrialists and small traders. Regarding the importance of the move, he emphasised the obligation to proceed with it quickly, and to make much progress before the year ends.
It is a huge boost for Lebanon as the World Bank has come on board to help it bounce back and repair the loss caused by the devastating effects of the conflict.
