Egypt Coach Hassan Sets Sights on Eighth AFCON Crown in Morocco

Hossam Hassan, Egypt’s national team coach, has his sights set on a record eighth Africa Cup of Nations title when Morocco hosts the tournament from Dec. 21, 2025. “My team is available and my team is confident, I have Mohamed Salah from Liverpool and Omar Marmoush from Manchester City,” Hassan said speaking after Monday’s draw in Rabat.

South Africa, Angola, and Zimbabwe make up Group B, which the Pharaohs finish in, meaning first-round matches are set for an interesting start. Morocco’s infrastructure and facilities were praised by Hassan, who said that the conditions were advantageous for his team’s campaign. It’s been 12 years since Egypt last lifted the AFCON trophy and despite reaching two finals since then (2017 and 2021) they have not quite struck gold.

Hassan however, is tallying 11 months before he taps back up again, and is focused on ensuring Egypt takes back over where the dominance of an award-winning continent is concerned after going nine years without one. The much-admired such as Salah and Marmoush will make you feel the pressure,” said the former Egyptian legend, who promised fans they would see the emergence of new stars during the tournament. The top two teams of each group will join the four best third-placed teams in the knockout stages.
