Egypt Rolls Out Digital Public Shop Licensing: What Changes to Expect for Small Businesses

The Egyptian government has introduced a new digital licensing process that should facilitate obtaining licenses for small business owners through an online platform without going through complicated bureaucracy.

Faster Digital Licensing Process Introduced in Egypt
According to the new regulations, business owners won’t have to visit many government offices to complete licensing procedures.
In contrast, applications for the permits can be made via a single digital window, linking up all the concerned parties handling the business licenses.
One of the most important reforms is the establishment of an instant temporary license permit, whereby those eligible for business permits are able to start operations while the full applications are under process.
Additionally, authorities have set a deadline of three months within which, if the process is not completed, the license is automatically granted.
This process is expected to increase efficiency and remove delays that used to make the registration process cumbersome for entrepreneurs.
Lower Fees to Encourage Formal Registration of Businesses
Along with making the registration process easier through the digitisation of the process, Egypt has also lowered licensing fees by 50% for eligible services.
The reduction of fees is designed to reduce entry barriers to business registration as well as encourage more businesses operating informally to register formally.
