Israel Bombs South Lebanon, Killing Eleven: What Happened in Kfar Rumman and Why This Ceasefire is Failing

Israel struck the southern Lebanese town of Kfar Rumman early Monday morning in an attack , Israeli attacks in south Lebanon, in which at least eleven people died, including two children and two medics, according to the state news agency of Lebanon, in an intensification of Israeli bombardment of southern Lebanon amid a ceasefire.
This followed attacks in which at least seven people were killed in attacks across southern Lebanon by Israel on Sunday, according to Lebanese authorities.
Attacks Target Residential Building and Civilians’ Vehicle
An Israeli airstrike targeted a residential building in Kfar Rumman around midnight, leading to the death of nine people, including two kids, according to Lebanon’s National News Agency.
There was another Israeli drone strike on a civilian vehicle in the city that reportedly killed two medics inside the vehicle, the agency reported.
The Lebanese Health Ministry had released a slightly different number of casualties regarding one of the attacks. As reported by The Associated Press, the Health Ministry reported the deaths of eight civilians after a building was struck; there was a child and two women among the dead. Eleven other civilians were also injured, including four children and two women.
Differences in the number of casualties may be attributed to separate reports due to ongoing efforts in rescuing and recovering the victims.
No Evacuation Notice Given Before Attack
The Israeli military reportedly conducted the attacks in Kfar Rumman without issuing any evacuation notice online before the attacks, as per reporting.
The Israeli military did not respond to Reuters’ questions regarding the strikes, which include whether the military was aware of the presence of medics and children in those areas and the reason behind not issuing an evacuation notice.
At a different time, an Israeli military spokesman gave a warning regarding evacuation from the vicinity of a structure in another southern Lebanese town close to 2:00 a.m. local time. The Israeli military said that the building housed Hezbollah installations that would soon be targeted.
The warning came after the strikes in Kfar Rumman.
Israeli Strikes Go On Despite Ceasefire
The attacks take place despite the ceasefire that has considerably lowered the intensity of fighting between Israel and Hezbollah.
Nevertheless, Israeli troops are still occupying parts of southern Lebanon, while the Israeli military is still carrying out strikes both within and farther north of the region, according to the report.
The developments have once again sparked fears about the sustainability of the ceasefire and the continued danger facing civilians residing in southern Lebanon.
More than 4,300 people have been killed in Israeli strikes against Lebanon ever since Hezbollah launched rockets into Israel on March 2 following US and Israeli strikes against Iran.
This is yet another case of increased casualties in Southern Lebanon because of Israeli military strikes that are still going on even after the ceasefire.
