Egypt and Chevron Ink $88 Million Offshore Exploration Deal in the Mediterranean

The Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) entered into a $88 million minimum investment agreement with the Chevron energy corporation based in the United States on October 6, 2026, Egypt Chevron exploration deal, to explore and develop Mediterranean natural gas and crude oil in the offshore Lotus area.
Expanding Cairo’s Hydrocarbon Ambitions
The deal to explore for oil and gas in Egypt was signed between Sayed Selim, the executive managing director of EGAS, and Andrew Deighan, the exploration director of Chevron in MENA, thereby supporting the decisions taken by the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources of Egypt to explore new marine areas. In accordance with the agreement, two offshore exploratory wells will be constructed and required three-dimensional seismic data will be re-processed. Karim Badawi, the Minister, witnessed the signing ceremony, which shows that the government of the country aims at raising its production.
Accelerating Operations in the Lotus Block
It remains the priority of Egypt to attract upstream investments as it faces the challenges of global supply now. The news agency Arab Finance reported that the new investment will significantly increase the footprint of Chevron in the Eastern Mediterranean.
