China Eager to Stabilize Bilateral Relations With US
China heeds the US hope to stabilize and improve relations with China, says the Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi who met with President Joe Biden in Washington. He believes China and the US need to act with a sense of responsibility for the world, history and people.
Wang said both sides need to push for the steady and sound development of China-US relations in line with the principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation, as prosed by the Chinese President Xi Jinping.
“This is not only in the fundamental interests of the two countries and two peoples, but also the common aspiration of the international community.
US Should Respect One China Principle
Wang told the US president that the two countries need to return to a healthy and stable development track at an early date. He said China attaches great importance to the US and hopes to stabilize, and improve bilateral relations. “The one-China principle and the Three Joint Communiques were the most important political foundation for bilateral ties. These must be effectively maintained and not interfered with.”
The Chinese minister highlighted that his trip to the US is to follow through on the important common understandings reached by the two heads of state, and proceed from the Bali summit towards a San Francisco summit.
Beijing wants to prevent bilateral ties from further deteriorating and bring the China-US relationship back on track – that of a healthy and steady development. Wang said this is not only in the fundamental interests of both countries and their people, but also the common aspiration of the international community.
Biden said China and the US need to manage competition in the relationship responsibly and maintain open lines of communication.

Biden to Meet China President
President Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping are expected to meet next month in San Francisco on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit. They haven’t spoken since November 2022. A US official said there was an agreement in principle for both leaders to meet.
Meanwhile, California Governor Gavin Newsom was in China. He met Xi Jinping with warm words and friendliness, which the American media say has not been seen in years in the China-US relations. Newsom’s visit highlighted China’s relationship with California. It should be noted that this state is home to the biggest population of Chinese-Americans nationally.
