egypt unveils le 45b export rebates to boost industry & trade

Egypt has expanded its export rebate program by LE 45 billion for the next financial year (2024–2025). The financing will help support local industry, grow exports, and improve foreign exchange positions.

The announcement was made by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly during the meeting with Finance Minister Mohamed Maait, Trade and Industry Minister Ahmed Samir, and other key ministers. The expansion of the rebate program runs from July 2024 to June 2025.

The expansion is part of Egypt’s larger strategy to boost and support its industrial sector while expanding as a player in global trade. The government plans to process the remaining rebates from previous years, with Finance Minister Maait previously stating that Egypt has compensated exporters with LE 55 billion in export rebates in previous years to provide support for exporters.

The current expanded program will aim to improve speed of payment, allow more exporters to be eligible, and create flexible access to state assistance. Growth in manufacturing and exports are part of Egypt’s strategy to rescale its economic situation and create jobs.

This move is a clear signal from the Egyptian government that they want to position Egypt back to a more competitive place regarding the international trade scenario.
