Egypt Strengthens Gas Infrastructure with New FSRU Charter

EGAS, Egypt’s state-owned gas company, has signed a new charter contract with the Norwegian FSRU operator Hoegh Evi to reinforce its national gas infrastructure. The terms of the agreement require the Hoegh Gandria FSRU to be deployed, consequently contributing to a greater level of energy security and meeting domestic energy needs that grow each year.
By replacing Hoegh Galleon, the new FSRU will deliver the latest regasification technologies to Egypt’s offshore energy infrastructure. These developments are essential since the country encounters greater stress to sustain gas supply, particularly during the months of peak demand.
According to energy specialists, this move is key because the FSRU is set to improve the support for Egypt’s gas distribution network. Ship-based regasification infrastructure improves the country’s capability to import gas more quickly and strengthens its response to increased demand seasons.
The contract covers several major features such as:
- Introduction of the advanced FSRU Hoegh Gandria to the Egyptian energy sector.
- Hoegh Galleon’s interim role will be taken over by the new FSRU.
- The new charter improves Egypt’s summer energy supply capabilities.
- Improvement of Egypt’s gas infrastructure network.
