UAE Holds Strong Hand on Sudan Peace Opposing Port Sudan Authority

The UAE has shown commitment to Sudan’s peace and stability while rejecting the Port Sudan Authority’s recent decision. The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) stated that the Port Sudan Authority does not represent the real government or people of Sudan.
Several points were raised by the UAE.
- Commitment to an Inclusive Peace: The UAE believes in a comprehensive political sentiment including all Sudanese to become part of the peace process and not just one side.
- A Neutral Stance to Mediation: The UAE stays out of one side or the other in Sudan’s crisis, so it can maintain a neutral mediation process.
- No to Armed Takeover: The UAE doesn’t want to recognize military or factional authorities, thinking it may lead to more violence and undermine civilian leadership.
- Humanitarian Assistance Without Politics: The UAE is committed to supporting Sudanese civilians through humanitarian assistance and ensuring aid reaches its objectives without politicizing it.
The UAE’s actions align with other international approaches to Sudan, including the actions of the African Union and the United Nations, where recognition is suspended until there is some sort of political process. Longer-Term Solutions over Short-Term Gains: The UAE has stated to support sustainable governance in Sudan as it did not support any de facto or de jure political action to be taken quickly as this may only destabilize the Sudan context further.
The UAE’s response characterizes its immediate plans as focusing on long-term peace for Sudan and long-term governance reform, sustainable governance practice versus short-term politics.
