Endurance Sports in Oman- Ultra Marathons and Desert Challenges

Oman has become a famous destination for endurance sports because of its vast deserts and rugged environment. The special aspects of the natural physical geography allow for that unique circumstance of ultra marathons and hard desert experience to challenge human limits.
An excellent example is the Oman Desert Marathon, a 165 kilometer race over five days in the beautiful Wahiba Sands. The race starts at the Oasis of Al Wasil and ends at the Al Jawharat Resort in Bidiyah. Runners can travel through some of the highest dunes and some of the most remote parts of the Omani desert.

There are 42 km Al Sharqyah Marathon, 21 km Bidiyah Half Marathon, 10 km Bidiyah Cross Country Run as well as a family friendly distance of 5 km Al Wasil Family Fun Run. Each distance offers something for experienced racers and new runners alike, adding an element of fun to desert racing.
The IRONMAN 70.3 in Oman is another major occasion that combines a swim, a bike race and a run through Oman’s diverse landscape. Athletes will start with a swim in the warm, clear waters of the Arabian Sea. The bike course showcases a mix of contemporary and historical sites around the capital. After that, the race ends with a flat run through the natural beauty of Oman. This event not only tests athletes but also introduces them to the culture of Oman.
