Google layoffs: CEO Sundar Pichai clarifies meaning of ‘Googleyness’
In a recent all-hands meeting, Google CEO Sundar Pichai informed employees about a decision to cut the number of top management roles by 10% in an effort to increase efficiency by double that number, reported the Economic Times.
During that time, Pichai also sought to clarify the meaning of ‘Googleyness’. Once upon a time, the tech giant used this term to determine if a candidate is actually a good fit for hiring. But its definition has changed a lot.
Sundar Pichai defined ‘Googleyness’ as …
In the meeting, the CEO emphasised that the definition of ‘Googleyness’ had become too broad and that he felt obliged to clarify it, according to a couple of employees. They asked to remain anonymous as they are not authorised to talk to the press.
Per one of those sources, Sundar Pichai defined ‘Googleyness’ as: “make helpful things”, “mission first”, “hustle and have fun”, “be bold and responsible”, “team Google”, “stay scrappy”, according to Business Insider.
