Iran finished the 2025 World Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships in Lima, Peru, on a high note, taking 1-2 finishes at the heaviest men’s categories lifting a total of 1,556kg combined, showing they are well on their way to becoming the prevalent force in the sport.

In the 109 kg category, Alireza Nasiri lifted a 180kg in the snatch phase and topped that with a 220 kg clean and jerk for an overall total of 400 kg total with a 30kg lead over his fellow teammate, Farhad Gholizadeh, (370kg). Nasiri stated he was training with a clean & jerk of over 230-kilograms and opted to skip his final attempt, stating that he felt he wasn’t ready for the world record yet. 19-year-old Nasiri placed himself in a position to add another medal by taking a competition barbell weight welcome weight category to the Olympic 110-kilograms weight class competitor weight limit.

Hamidreza Mohammaditanha (394 kg) and Taha Nemati both lifted less than Nasiri in the +109kg super-heavyweight class. Both of them had problems with their clean and jerk attempts and are not likely to be in medal position at the Olympics.
