Iran Expects Nothing Will Come Out of Israel-Hamas Ceasefire
If the ceasefire does not hold, the scope of the war will expand, says Iran’s top diplomat Hossein Amirabdollahian who was in Lebanon for a meeting with Hassan Nasrallah, the leader of Hezbollah. He brushed off reports that Iran wanted to expand the war or spillover into the broader Middle East.
The Iranian Foreign Minister said if Iran were pursuing such a goal, it would lead a significant change in the overall conditions in the region. But President Ebrahim Raisi mocked Israel saying it had failed to achieve its objectives in the war with Hamas. He said the temporary ceasefire deal represents a victory for Palestinians.
“The Zionist regime has not been able to achieve its goals; they wanted to neutralize the resistance, but they could not.” Raisi added that Israel’s actions in Gaza only garnered global hatred for the country.
Israel Continues Lebanon Border
On Thursday, Hezbollah fired 48 Katyusha rockets at an Israeli military base at Ein Zeitim, about 10 km from the border. It claimed responsibility for 10 other attacks on Israeli posts near the frontier.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said Israeli soldiers struck Hezbollah military infrastructure. “In addition, an IDF helicopter, a UAV, and tanks struck a terrorist cell that launched an anti-tank missile toward the area of Biranti, and the launch post from which the missile was fired.” These exchanges are stated to be the most intense since the start of war in Gaza. Sources say two leaders of Hezbollah’s elite Al-Radwan force were among the five killed.
The Lebanon-Israel border continues to be a hotspot. Villagers in this area are wary and have no trust in the Israeli forces. One person said there is no trust. “Who should we trust, even? Israel? They are killing children, the wounded, newborns and the elderly in hospitals. Would you trust them?
Thousands of families have fled their homes along the Lebanese-Israeli border.
