Israel Strikes Largest Hospital in Southern Gaza, Fatalities and Fire Reported
According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, Israeli forces targeted Nasser Hospital, the largest medical facility in southern Gaza on Sunday night 22nd March with 1 death and several serious injuries reported. The strike sparked a huge fire in the hospital’s surgical building located in Khan Younis, only days after the surgical building was overwhelmed with casualties from renewed strikes by Israel.
Israel’s military has acknowledged the attack, stating it was aimed at a Hamas fighter who was located inside the hospital. Israel continues to assert civilian casualties because it operates in an area with high civilian density.
The assault takes place in the midst of an intensifying of violence after a ceasefire fell apart last week. According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, over 50,000 Palestinians have been killed in the ongoing war. The latest wave of Israeli strikes has left thousands fleeing with displaced civilians under constant barrage.
As Israel faces growing unrest at home, political tensions continue to rise with protests against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government intensifying. And the destruction of one of the largest hospitals in Gaza leaves a question of the health aid to the war torn region.
