Morocco Set to Host Women’s Africa Cup of Nations for Third Consecutive Time in 2026
The venue of the Wafcon has been finalized, and Morocco is set to host the event in 2026 as the nation has recently been promoting women’s continental football. CAF released details of the tournament on Thursday with 38 nations participating in the preliminary round of qualification proving the rising strength of women’s football in Africa. This is the third successive year Morocco will be hosting the highly-rated tournament after the 2022 and the 2024 finals.
A lot of work is expected in the qualification phase to Wafcon 2026 where teams will fight and away fixtures to make the tournament. Four of the five African teams to qualify directly for the next stage are ranked among the best six teams in Africa and these are Nigeria, South Africa, Zambia, Ghana, Cameroon and Ivory Coast. The first qualifying round is to be played in February, 2025 and will involve 16 teams that are likely to be involved in dramatic matches that could define their continental future.
