Mushfiqur Rahim Breaks All-Time Bangladesh Test Record

Mushfiqur Rahim is in the history books of Bangladesh cricket at Galle International Cricket Stadium when he scored in a Test match against Sri Lanka in the first series. The senior wicket-keeper batsman eclipsed Mohammad Ashraful to be the highest run-getter by Bangladesh in Test cricket on Sri Lankan soil, and this is another new achievement in the illustrious career of Mushfiqur Rahim.
Mushfiqur Rahim Record-Breaking Performance at Galle
Mushfiqur Rahim, a 37-year-old, recorded this historic triumph when creating a magnificent half-century of test results in a difficult situation. Mushfiqur Rahim was not only stabilizing the Bangladesh innings, but also in the course of doing so, he also surpassed Ashraful’s record of 751 runs in 18 innings in Sri Lanka by scoring 755 runs in his 15 innings in Sri Lanka. The visitors were under pressure after the first fifteen overs, claiming Shadman Islam and Anamul Haque for eight runs only. Mominul Haque was ruled out by a debutant Sri Lankan spinner, Tharindu Rathnayake, which made things even more difficult for the touring team.
Nevertheless, the alliance of the vice-captain Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mushfiqur Rahim was the twist of the story. Shanto, who scored fifty of only 33 balls, played an aggressive brand of cricket which perfectly fitted in with Mushfiqur Rahim’s methodical innings. Their fourth wicket stand not only saved Bangladesh from the soup but also placed them in a strong position before tea on the first day.
The domination of Mushfiqur Rahim in the Sri Lankan conditions is even more prominent when considering the full statistics. In Bangladesh batsmen, Tamim Iqbal is placed third by scoring 556 runs off 10 innings at an average of 92.66, whereas Mominul Haque is second by scoring 428 runs and has played 10 innings with an average of 85.60. The fifth in this top five is veteran batsman Habibul Bashar, who has scored 291 runs in 16 innings.
