Turkish Space Tech company sends new IoT satellites into space

Turkish space technology firm Plan-S has accomplished yet another milestone in its mission to achieve worldwide connectivity. Utilizing SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket, four more satellites launched as part of the Transporter-14 mission, as part of an overall plan to develop a massive next-gen Internet of Things satellite network. Plan-S, which started operations in 2021, develops cutting-edge satellites and space technologies for IoT communications, Earth observation, and remote sensing. The new satellites will augment the company’s existing Connect IoT Network. Plan-S Connecta already connects millions of smart devices across numerous sectors, including energy, agriculture, infrastructure, and logistics.
The addition of four satellites means that Plan-S has a total of 17 satellites in space. Ozdemir Gumusay, Plan-S CEO, stated that the new satellites would improve data processing capability, improve service quality, and increase data collection frequency from 40%. In addition, they have now offered gigabit-speed data access with the 12-satellite service configuration.
A major milestone of the launch was that the satellites’ IoT antennas and orientation systems were completely designed and built in-house by engineers at Plan-S. This means the company drastically reduced production costs and contributes to Turkiye’s technological independence.
CTO Gokmen Cengiz added that their satellite network that is growing, scalable, sustainable, and has already provided real-time global coverage. Currently, Plan-S has four ground stations located in Ankara, Erzurum, and in Sweden, that download data from IoT devices around the world.
Plan-S plans to have hundreds of satellites in orbit by 2030 and become a central part of the global ecosystem of satellite-based IoT and a key player in Turkiye’s future in innovative space technology.
