Saudi minister and UN agency head talk on humanitarian ties
Waleed Al-Khuraiji, the deputy minister of foreign affairs for Saudi Arabia, recently met Philippe Lazzarini, the head of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees in the Near East, at the ministry’s Riyadh headquarters.
Al-Khuraiji reviewed the Kingdom’s efforts to assist the Palestinian people at the meeting, and he and Lazzarini talked about measures to further improve their cooperation with UNRWA.
The organization made a request for $16.2 million in March to assist Palestine refugees impacted by the recent and extremely destructive earthquake in Syria.

The funds were urgently needed as part of the UN organization’s 2023 Syria-Lebanon Quick Appeal to help the refugee population in the aftermath of the February earthquake that shook the north of Syria.
The supervisor general of the King Salman Humanitarian Assistance and Relief Center met Lazzarini outside of the 2023 Riyadh International Humanitarian Forum, where they spoke about a number of topics of interest and ways to improve collaboration.
Lazzarini commended Saudi Arabia for continuing to support Palestinians and applauded the tight collaboration between the agency and the center.
