Melissa Barrera, who was fired from Scream 7, for supporting Palestine has once again urged the world to reflect on the plight of Palestinians this Christmas.

She took to Instagram to highlight her thoughts “I hope this Christmas feels…weird.”

“I hope you can’t ignore the fact that you’re celebrating the birth of a child who was persecuted and targeted and his parents forced to flee to Egypt while right now millions of Palestinians from the exact part of the world are being persecuted and targeted and forced to flee their homes while they are indiscriminately and relentlessly bombed Merry Xmas.”

Melissa Barrera Left ‘Scream 7’

The Mexican actress was let go, fired from Scream 7 for her social media posts expressing support for the Palestinian cause. Barrera, who starred in Scream 5 and Scream 6, also criticized Israeli actions and called for a ceasefire. The 33-year-old described Palestine as a colonized country and accused Israeli forces of genocide and ethnic cleansing.

This didn’t go well with the production house Spyglass Media Group. In an official statement, it said “We have zero tolerance for anti-Semitism or the incitement of hate in any form, including false references to genocide, ethnic cleansing, Holocaust distortion or anything that flagrantly crosses the line into hate speech.”

Meanwhile, Scream 7 director Christopher Landon has also exited from the Scream franchise. He said he left the movie weeks ago. “I guess now is a good time as any to announce I formally exited Scream 7 weeks ago. This will disappoint some and delight others. It was a dream job that turned into a nightmare. And my heart did break for everyone involved. Everyone. But it’s time to move on.”

Hollywood Divided on Palestine

Hollywood is visibly divided over the conflict in Gaza. And whoever takes sides with Palestine, is back lashed. Model Bella Hadid, Angelina Jolie, Cynthia Nixon and Susan Sarandon, among others have been criticized for standing for Palestine.

Nixon said people are getting penalized for speaking out. “But there are a lot of actors and performers getting together a response to that and saying ‘Hey, this isn’t OK’, we may not agree about everything and maybe some of us can express ourselves a little more carefully, but it doesn’t mean that people should then lose their livelihoods.”
