Yemen’s Revenge: Claims of Targeting U.S. Aircraft Carrier in the Red Sea
Yemen’s armed forces have taken responsibility for a missile and drone attack on the U.S. aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman in the northern Red Sea, a significant escalation of the current conflict. The attack is in retaliation for recent U.S. airstrikes against Yemen which have caused many casualties and extensive damage.
On Sunday, Yemeni army spokesman Yahya Saree confirmed that the attack included 18 ballistic and cruise missiles, as well as a drone targeting the American warship and its fleet. The military operation was labeled as a direct reaction to the U.S. airstrikes which targeted several Yemeni sites including provinces like Sana’a, Sa’ada and Ma’rib, killing many individuals.

The U.S. carried out 47 airstrikes in Yemen which was one of the biggest military actions since the war intensified. Yemeni authorities, in retaliation, promised to continue attacking American warships in the Red Sea and Arabian Sea, if the U.S. continues its attacks.
The tensions further increased after the U.S. President Donald Trump threatened decisive and powerful military action if Yemen persists in targeting shipping in international waters. Yemen also reaffirmed its commitment to imposing a naval blockade on Israeli ships sailing through the Red and Arabian Seas, blaming the U.S. for complicity in Israel’s activities in Gaza.
This intensifying conflict highlights the growing geopolitical tensions in the region with Yemen’s military operations increasing as a response of defence against U.S. and Israeli interests.
