Trump Announces New Tariff Structure; Morocco Among Nations Facing 10% Rate

Through various trade duties President Donald Trump made important changes to US trade rules that apply different levels of taxes to North African imports depending on their existing taxes on American products.
Under President Trump’s “Liberation Day” plan he applies new basic 10% duties on imports along with increased tariffs towards countries having trade surpluses with the USA.
Morocco joins several other countries at this level of tariff practice because it already taxes trade with the United States equally. North African neighbors of Morocco including Algeria and Tunisia need to pay 30% and 28% respectively under this policy.
Trump said his trade policy establishes equal business terms for American companies to operate next to other nations.
The highest tariffs target Asian economies:
- Cambodia: 49%
- Vietnam: 46%
- Sri Lanka: 44%
- China: 34%
- India: 26%
Several countries join Morocco within the 10% tariff group including Australia, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Turkiye, and the United Kingdom because they also set similar tariffs for American imports.
