Why is Turkish actress Meral Kaplan in the news?

Meral Kaplan, a famous actress best known for her role as Nazan in the television series Sevda Cicegi  had been reported to police in Turkey for details of land fraud crimes. The same reports said she was involved in a land sale of 20 million Turkish lira in the Arnavutkoy area of Istanbul.

According to Ekol TV, police came to her home after hearing reports that she and her friends attempted to sell a plot of land. A company showed interest, and they set an agreement for a price of 20 million TL, with papers signed and everything prepared.

As it turned out, the sale never went through. Reports stated that the paperwork was fake, and the money transfer was never completed. Kaplan denied everything during her questioning. She was released but had to adhere to an agreement presented by the court.

When the news broke, Kaplan made a statement through social media to get her side of the situation out.

She stated, “I have never worked in real estate. I don’t know about land or property sales. I never scammed anyone. I was the one who was scammed. I was surprised to see that I had been ‘detained’ in an article, but I was at home. The police were only enquiring about a person I know. I told them what I knew, and I went back home.”Kaplan added that her lawyer,, is handling the case. She asked for everyone to be sensitive, as she is a mother.
