This move was triggered by a French report stating that about 7% of Islamic places of worship in Switzerland have ties to the Brotherhood, raising concerns about social cohesion and national unity.

Swiss media outlets, including the newspaper 24 Heures, have warned that the Muslim Brotherhood operates beyond mosques. They use community groups, educational institutions, and financial networks to expand their influence quietly. This hidden presence is seen as a serious threat to Switzerland’s democratic society.
Security Challenges and Controversies
Security concerns are rising as extremist figures linked to the Brotherhood attempt to participate in public events. For example, in early 2025, the city of Biel canceled a Ramadan conference due to fears over the involvement of extremist speakers. One notable figure, Imam Samir Radhouane Jlassi, was denied Swiss citizenship because of his Brotherhood connections and flagged by Swiss intelligence as a security risk.
Moreover, investigations show that the Ticino region, near the Italian border, has been a significant center for the Brotherhood’s activities since the early 2000s.
New Measures to Protect Switzerland
Switzerland has introduced a comprehensive plan with 26 measures to combat radicalization and the Brotherhood’s growing influence. This plan includes stronger penalties for extremist activities, increased police powers, and new intelligence laws focused on preventing threats to national security.
