Morocco Ranks 7th in Africa on 2026 Governance Index and Extends Fuel Aid for Road Transporters
This week Morocco took yet another step to being one of the world’s leading nations in terms of good governance as it moved to the forefront of the Ibrahim Index of African Governance (IIAG). Morocco 2026 Governance Index, The newly published Mo Ibrahim foundation report shows Morocco has improved its public sector in a steady way for a decade, and is ranked 7th in Africa on 2026 Governance Index.
The state is rejoicing this diplomatic and institutional achievement at the same time that it is dealing with current domestic economic pressures. The extension of direct Morocco fuel for the road transporters has been officially confirmed by the Head of Government’s Office.
The two developments further reflect Rabat’s policy of continuing to pursue long-term institutional change but acting on the short term to provide some relief to its working class citizens.
Analyzing the Morocco 2026 Governance Index Performance
Every year, the IIAG assesses the security, rule of law, economic opportunity and human development indicators for 54 African countries. The 2026 edition emphasizes Morocco’s progress in overall governance in the last decade.
Morocco’s rank of #7 in the Mo Ibrahim Foundation Index is a sign of solid progress in providing basic public services, expanding the infrastructure, and boosting internal economic diversification.
Its performance was much better than the average of the continent and of the North African region. It’s a top ten ranking for foreign investors, and a sign of a safe, stable and well-governed North African business climate.
The report, however, also shows that if macroeconomic indicators are good, there is still a need for targeted actions to protect vulnerable domestic sectors from the volatility in global markets.
Expanding the Morocco Diesel Price Subsidy
The government has introduced a new economic lifeline for the domestic logistics network to tackle this same economic weakness. The state, which recently announced that it will extend its support program for the Moroccan transport sector, said that recently local diesel prices at some filling stations had come close to reaching MAD 17 per liter.
This particular financial measure is meant to “shield the companies from the abrupt changes in the oil market,” according to official statements quoted by Hespress English.
The government is directly support these operators to avoid the “ripplers effect” of rising transportation expenses to consumers’ food and commodity prices.
The Ministry of Transport and Logistics has announced that applications for subsidy will be eligible from next week and the eligible transport professionals can now start submitting their subsidy applications. The digital application platform will officially be opened on Tuesday, November 10, 2026, via the dedicated government platform (mouakaba.transport.gov.ma).
This particular “cycle” of Morocco fuel aid road transporters will be acting on a critical 15-day period. Experts estimate the cost of restoring universal fuel subsidies at MAD 70 billion a year, but the state has ruled out that and this relief is essential for the logistics industry’s breathing space.
Finally, on 2026 Governance Index, Morocco is 7th in Africa, and is actively proving its governance capacity. The government is also diligently implementing the diesel price subsidy in Morocco and, along with its institutional gains, is building a strong commitment to delivering concrete, day-to-day stability to its people from the macro-economic gains.
