Monday, November 16, 2020. The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General to Somalia Amb James Swan, who has been in Qatar for the past few hours, has met with Qatari officials to discuss the upcoming elections in Somalia. James Swan held an important meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Deputy Prime Minister, Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, to discuss the situation in Somalia.

Qatar is one of the countries that are openly interfering in Somalia’s internal and foreign politics. In the 2016 election, Qatar provided financial support to President Farmajo and played a key role in his victory. Qatar is one of the countries interested in Farmajo’s return to power, and is spending a lot of money on current traditional elders and communities.

The meeting also focused on the relationship between the United Nations and Qatar, and discussed the transition period in our country and the upcoming elections, which in recent days have been the subject of widespread controversy. The Qatari government has good relations with the Somali federal government, and is believed to have strong access to Villa Somalia, which has severed ties with other Arab states.

The game comes with a ringing out to an imminent danger related to the government’s strong support for helping return the current president, who faces a tough challenge. However, while in Qatar, James Swan will hold various meetings with other Qatari officials, following a lawsuit filed against Somalia’s top leaders yesterday.
