On Sunday hope of an American journalist’s family rose again when President Joe Biden stated that the U.S. believes American journalist Austin Tice, who has been missing in Syria for 12 years is still alive. Biden expressed optimism by saying, “We think we can get him back.” Austin Tice is a freelance journalist. He was abducted in 2012 while reporting on civil war in Syria.
Biden said that though currently the U.S. does not have direct proof of the condition of the Tice but US committed to bring him home. The recent collapse of the Assad regime in Syria and the release of political prisoners have given new hope for return of American Journalist Tice at home. His family also voiced optimism, stating, “We are all in D.C. working for his fast and safe return.”
The Tice family recently said that they have received information from a “significant source” that has been vetted by the U.S. government. Although they didn’t reveal the identity of the source. Debra the mother of Tice is confident that her son is alive and well. She expressed her belief at a press conference.
As the regime of President Bashar al-Assad falls in Syria thousands of prisoners have been released including those from Sednaya prison known for its brutal torture methods. This has led to hopes that Tice could be among those.
