Barcelona Eyes Fourth Friendly Match to Boost Summer Revenue

barcelona eyes fourth friendly match to boost summer revenue

FC Barcelona is considering holding an extra match in Morocco or elsewhere in Europe as they conclude arrangements for their tour this summer. Three of their pre-season friendlies are already scheduled in Asia. They will be playing against Vissel Kobe in Japan, honoring Andres Iniesta’s former team. There are also two matches in South Korea, but the countries and the timing have yet to be revealed.

Barcelona hopes to earn significant money from their tour in North Asia:

  • The two confirmed friendlies will bring in €15 million of income for the club.
  • The additional €5 million could come from variable factors.
  • €25 million is the possible total, when we take into account commercial agreements.

Team officials are in the process of finding another friendly game venue in either Morocco or Europe at this time. No Club World Cup means Barcelona will lose out on that income, and this support would help them make up for it. The club president, Joan Laporta, has canceled the idea of playing a friendly in Indonesia after the season. Eventually, the team decided to hire him because he performed well in the Champions League and helped them go further, reaching the semi-finals against what they thought they could do.
