If you are still sprinkling hashtags across your posts on X, it is probably time to rethink your strategy on the social media platform. Billionaire Elon Musk has been leading X for more than a year, introducing sizeable changes frequently.
Musk recently responded to a Grok reply (that roasted hashtags) to the question if hashtags are still necessary. The entrepreneur joined the discussion: “Please stop using hashtags. The system doesn’t need them anymore and they look ugly.”

Then, is it time for a hashtag-less future? Probably. Originally created to help users find trending topics on social media platforms and be part of specific discussions, hashtags are currently being mocked as ‘outdated relics of a bygone internet era’.
X’s systems have become smart enough to surface relevant content, even if the user has not sprinkled a dozen hashtags on their post. The platform’s algorithms can detect and promote content organically, making hashtags unnecessary.
