Donald Trump stresses need for Ukraine elections: Let's understand

US President Donald Trump highlighted on February 18 his opinion that Ukraine should hold elections as he apparently laid the blame for the ongoing fighting on President Volodymyr Zelensky’s leadership, as per reports.

Trump’s comments come as the US and Russian delegations hold meticulous discussions in Saudi Arabia to put an end to the Ukrainian crisis once and for all. But Ukraine did not find a seat at the table this time.

Speaking on the topic, Trump blamed Ukraine for the start of the nearly three-year-old fighting and for not “making a deal” to bring peace. The comments echo the US President’s earlier statements where he blamed Zelensky and the former Biden administration.

Ukraine should also hold elections because Zelensky holds a “4% approval rating”, Trump also alleged, as per reports. This claim contradicts a recent poll that notes that as of last December, 52% of Ukrainians trust their President.
