Egypt’s Prime Minister Announces Major Projects in the Suez Canal Economic Zone

On May 10, 2025, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly visited the East and West Port Said areas of the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) in order to inaugurate major projects and inspect infrastructure under development. The SCZONE is currently operating 262 industrial, service, and logistics projects generating around 40,200 job announcements. Further the SCZONE has also launched 10 major investment projects in its seaports.
Increase in Licenses and Investment Growth
The SCZONE generated 77 new operating licenses between July 1, 2022, and March 31, 2025, and they provided 137 building permits showing strong interest from investors. Madbouly stated that these projects enhance Egypt’s global competitiveness, create sustainable jobs, and improve supply chain infrastructure. His visit was part of an extensive plan to position Egypt as a leading investment destination.
Suez Canal Container Terminal: A regional hub
A significant anchor point in Islamic Sea Trade was the Suez Canal Container Terminal at East Port Said Port, the largest port in the Eastern Mediterranean. It occupies 1.2 million square meters, has a quay length of 2,400 meters, and has the capacity to handle 7 million containers a year. The investment to establish the terminal was almost $1 billion.
