Germany car ramming a suspected attack: Comes a day before Munich Security Conference

This Thursday morning, a car rammed into a group of people in central Munich, injuring at least 28 people, including children, according to authorities. The incident happened around 10:30 am and a demonstration had been taking place at the time.
Police suspect the incident is an attack. The suspect, a 24-year-old asylum seeker, has been arrested and is no longer considered a threat. Munich Mayor Dieter Reiter said that he is “deeply shocked” because of the car ramming.
The suspected attack comes just a day before the beginning of a high-profile Munich Security Conference, to be attended by numerous international leaders such as the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, and US Vice-President JD Vance.
The incident comes less than a couple of months after a deadly attack at a Christmas market in Magdeburg. In the coming days, Germany is going to experience heightened security as the country prepares for parliamentary elections on February 23.
