Historic Win: Liverpool Beats Real Madrid After 15 Years
In the 2024 – 25 UEFA Champions League, Liverpool defeated Real Madrid 2-0, their first victory against the Spanish powerhouse in 15 years.
The Reds are currently leading the Champions League table after goals from Cody Gakpo and Alexis Mac Allister in a match that saw both Kylian Mbappe and Mohamed Salah miss penalties.
Liverpool already leads the new league format by two points after winning this tournament five consecutive times in a row.
Liverpool was clearly in full command of the game and Real Madrid is presently ranked 24th out of 36 teams.
Following a brilliant play with Conor Bradley, Mac Allister gave Liverpool the lead in the 52nd minute.
In the 76th minute, Gakpo headed a cross from Andy Robertson past Thibaut Courtois to complete the victory.
Mac Allister expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance after the game.
“When you play against teams like Real Madrid, it’s always nice to score but the most important thing is that we won it and I think in a really good way. We dominated the game, we deserved this.” He said.
The win increased Liverpool’s perfect Champions League record and marked a great beginning for the manager Arne Slot at the club.
Slot has effectively taken over from former manager Jurgen Klopp keeping Liverpool’s aggressive attacking style and also a high pressing game intact.
Slot’s victory against Real Madrid is his 17th win in his first 19 matches as a Liverpool FC’s manager which is a remarkable achievement.
Even though several missed opportunities were there in the first half somehow Liverpool dominated the match from the start till the end as a fierce match .
