India-Kuwait Air Services Expanded Flight Capacity Following 19 Years
The unforeseen aviation agreement between the nations of Kuwait and India comes at the beginning of a new age in the frequency of weekly air travel between the two countries, as they expand weekly air travel from 12,000 to 18,000 each week, the first upgrade since 2006. The purpose of the new air services agreement is to develop travel and trade relations between the two nations, and as there will be more choices of flights to choose from, there will be more available flights in August 2025.
The agreement was signed by Sheikh Hamoud Mubarak Al Sabah, President of the Civil Aviation Authority in Kuwait, and Samir Kumar Sinha, India’s Civil Aviation Secretary. The agreement is the first addition to bilateral flight rights in 19 years, when the last increase in weekly capacity was from 8,320 seats in 2006. At the moment, about 40 flights are operating daily between India and Kuwait.
The main airlines flying this busy route are:
- Kuwait Airways (54 weekly flights)
- IndiGo (36 weekly flights)
Other airlines operating between the countries are Air India Express, Jazeera Airways, and Akasa Air.
With the new cap on seat capacity of 18,000, Indian airlines are now seeking more access, as such:
- IndiGo is seeking another 5,000 seats per week.
- Air India Express and Akasa Air are requesting another 3,000 each.
- Air India is seeking another 1,500 seats.
The expanded operations will depend on slots being available at Kuwait International Airport, with both parties expected to work through this in the next few weeks. This new agreement is viewed as a huge leap forward in improving connectivity for workers, tourists, and business visitors between the two countries.
